Shimla. Many unique specimens of British engineering are still alive today. A unique specimen of craftsmanship is also present in Siyog, Shimla. There is a 123 year old water storage tank here. This tank was commissioned in 1901. Then Shimla was settled for a population of 20 to 25 thousand. A water storage tank was built to supply water to this population. The special thing is that water is supplied from this tank without any lift or motor.

Here the water reaches Shimla city with gravity. Time passed, the country got independence, the population of the city increased and the tank also stopped working. Recently, Shimla Municipal Corporation has renovated this tank. Once again, the Siyog tank which was closed for many years is supplying water to the people and water is being supplied to the people of Shimla from here at zero cost.

Oldest water supply scheme
Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Surendra Chauhan told Local 18 that the water storage tank built during the British era in Siyog inside Shimla Water Catchment Area was closed for many years. The Municipal Corporation renovated this tank and restarted it for the convenience of the people. This scheme is one of the oldest water supply schemes. Apart from this, water is also supplied to some areas near Navbahar through gravity. Currently, water is supplied to Shimla through various projects. But, water is being supplied from Siyog at zero cost.

The tank has a capacity of 90 lakh litres
The mayor said that this tank located in Siyog, Shimla has a water storage capacity of 9 MLD i.e. 90 lakh liters. The special thing about the tank is that along with the capacity of 90 lakh liters, water is also being supplied continuously from the tank. During the rainy season, silt is seen in the rivers and ravines. In such a situation, this tank is working to supply water to the people. Water is collected from 18 natural springs in this tank, out of which Shimla Municipal Corporation has recovered 10 springs. The work of recovering other springs is going on. The depth of the tank is 16 feet and many filters have been installed in it before supplying water.
